hit the slopes with confidence
Life is full of unexpected events, which is why we include Epic Coverage at no extra charge with all passes. If a covered event holds you back from your ski and ride season, you may be eligible to receive a cash refund for the days you miss, based on the price you paid for your pass. Plan your ski and ride season with greater confidence.
See Epic Coverage Terms and Conditions for details, including coverage exclusions and limitations.
Your new season pass will include Epic Coverage and you will be notified in the fall with instructions to customize your protection for your 23/24 season pass, including how to make, update or change your Epic Coverage elections. Elections will be open September 20-December 6, 2023 in My Account. After December 6, Pass holders who have not made elections will be defaulted to "Core Season" and "All Resorts" coverage.
Epic Coverage elections do not change the access of your pass; they are used to determine refund eligibility and amount should a qualifying event occur.

Does Epic Coverage provide a refund if I am unable to use my pass due to a travel advisory recommending that I not travel or a quarantine instituted by a state, province, county, or municipality that is applicable to my home?
Epic Coverage does not provide a refund for quarantines or travel advisories that apply to your home. Epic Coverage provides refunds if you are unable to use your pass during the Core Season because the municipality, county, state, province, or country in which your permanent residence is located is subject to a mandatory governmental “stay-at-home” or “shelter-in-place” order lasting thirty (30) or more consecutive days, at least seven (7) days of which are during the Core Season. Please see Epic Coverage Terms and Conditions for more information.
Does Epic Coverage provide reimbursement for personal medical expenses?
No, Epic Coverage does not reimburse guests for personal medical expenses.
Can I purchase Pass insurance?
Epic Coverage is included at no charge with all eligible Passes and provides protection across a range of Qualifying Personal Events and Qualifying Resort Closures.
Vail Resorts does not offer any other Pass insurance for purchase.
Please see Epic Coverage Terms and Conditions for full details.
How is my Epic Coverage refund determined?
Epic Coverage provides refunds for certain resort closures that occur during the Core Season (December 7, 2023 through April 17, 2024) due to disease, war, terrorism, and covered natural disasters. If a Qualifying Resort Closure occurs, refund eligibility and amount will vary based on the type of Pass your purchase, your Epic Coverage elections, and the number of days you use your Pass.
If a Qualifying Personal Event prevents you from being able to use your pass, you may be eligible for a refund. Your refund eligibility and amount will vary based on the type of Pass you purchase, your Epic Coverage elections, and the number of days you use your Pass.
The use of your Pass at Partner Resorts or outside of the Core Season, including early season use of EDGE Cards (or other products with similar offerings), will count towards the number of days you have used your Pass for purposes of determining the amount of any refund for which you may be eligible.
Please see the Epic Coverage Terms & Conditions for terms and limitations on refund coverage, as well as details on refund eligibility and amounts.
How do I follow up on the status of a pending refund request?
Please call 1-877-895-1297 and reference your existing refund request number to follow up on a pending refund request.
I purchased multiple Passes and received an Epic Coverage refund under one of the Passes. What happens next?
The Pass for which you received the refund will cease to be valid and you will no longer be able to use the Pass to access any resorts or receive any other ancillary Pass benefits for the remainder of the 2022/23 season. The other Passes will remain active.
Please note, guests who purchased multiple Passes and received a refund under one of the Passes will notice their Epic Coverage elections for all other Passes reverted to the default "Core Season" and "All Resorts" elections, even if the guest made specific Epic Coverage elections. You are able to update or change your elections for all valid Passes until the Epic Coverage election deadline.
Please see Epic Coverage Terms and Conditions for full details.
How do I start an Epic Coverage refund request for a Qualifying Personal Event?
Guests who wish to request a Personal Event Refund due to a Qualifying Personal Event can visit the refund request page or call 1-877-895-1297. When submitting your request by phone, you must provide your name, the type of Pass you purchased, your Pass identification number, along with a description of the Qualifying Personal Event and reasonable proof to verify the occurrence of the Qualifying Personal Event. What resort closures are covered by Epic Coverage?
Eligible closure events at Vail Resorts owned and operated North American resorts are covered by Epic Coverage. Please see Epic Coverage Terms and Conditions for full details.
Closures at any of our Australian resorts (Perisher, Mt. Hotham, Falls Creek) are not covered by Epic Coverage for guests who purchased a North American pass (e.g. Epic Pass, Epic Local). For more information on Epic Coverage for the Epic Australia Pass, please visit https://www.epicaustraliapass.com.au/epic-coverage/2021-epic-coverage.
Partner resorts are excluded from Epic Coverage and a closure at any of these resorts will not trigger a Qualifying Resort Closure refund under Epic Coverage. Please note, while Partner resorts closures are not covered by Epic Coverage, any days used at Partner resorts will count towards the number of days used your Pass, regardless of the time period of the season in which you used them.
Please see Epic Coverage Terms and Conditions for full details.
Are resort closures caused by snow events covered by Epic Coverage?
No. The only weather-related events covered by Epic Coverage at this time are natural disasters (flood, hurricane, tornado, earthquake, fire, and volcanic eruption) that lead to a resort closure. All other weather-related closures or limitations on available terrain, including because of snow levels, winds, lighting, or other weather-related events, are not eligible for refunds. Please see Epic Coverage Terms and Conditions for more information.
I selected a Primary Resort for my Core Season Epic Coverage. Am I covered if that resort has a qualifying closure, but other resorts remain open?
In the event your Primary Resort has a qualifying closure, you may be eligible for a refund. Please note, if you use your pass at other resorts while your Primary Resort is closed, you will reduce your potential refund or may not be eligible for a refund at all. Please see the “How are Refunds Determined?” of Epic Coverage Terms and Conditions for more information.
